(Very) Short Story: Two Wild Horses

 Two Wild Horses

This may not be the best compared to my other works. This is just something spontaneous and I didn't spend too much time on grammar and/or wording. Just enjoy the story
:)

Sunny and Leila are wild horses. They were young. They were strong. They roam free. Wild, young, and free.

You’d see them running wild across the crisp green meadow of Assateague Island, the golden sunshine reflecting on their glossy skins. The sky is a stunning blue, like a sapphire. The wind flowing so swiftly through their mane and tails. They have not a care in the world. They were a pair of wild horses. Partners in crime. Running wild. No one can get in their way. They were wild and free. You’d see these two shabby boney young horses getting in every little mischief. Wild they were, and free. Not a care in the world. Not a care.

One day, Leila started to change. She started to grow and mature into a beautiful horse. In place of the boney legs of a teen horse, were strong beautiful legs. The shabby mane turned into silky curls of beauty. The wide eyes of youth turned into delicate eyes of adulthood. The shabby form of a teen horse was slowly fading away, and with it, the youthful spirit of a wild horse.

Sunny watched as her companion started to change. She noticed that Leila started to worry about her behavior and appearance in front of other horses. When Sunny did silly things they used to do, Leila would only give her a raised eyebrow. Leila and Sunny still hang out, but it wasn’t like before. Leila started to walk elegantly with the other horses instead of running wild like before. Slowly, Sunny realized that Leila was no longer the wild horse she was before.

As Leila grew in beauty, she started to attract the attention of other male horses. Leila would spend time with them instead of Sunny. Leila would dance and show off her beauty to earn the praise of the male horses and popular horses alike. She started hanging out especially with this male horse named Nosli. Leila followed him and other popular horses in doing things they shouldn’t do. As Sunny watched Leila fall into darkness, she knew that the wild, young, and carefree companion that used to roam with her across the crisp green meadows of Assateague, is no more.

And so Sunny was all alone. She missed the old days, when they would roam free. They were once wild horses, roaming free on the crisp green meadows of Assateague. They had not a care in the world. All they needed was each other. The two of them, young, wild, and free.

Now, you’d only see Sunny, walking alone slowly down the dull dried meadow of Assateague. The sun no longer shone. The sky is a bleak gray. The wind was bitter. The two wild horses that used to roam wild and free on the crisp green meadows of Assateague… were no more.
